Overview of the curriculum

The subject of Internal Combustion Engine Project is a vocational subject, or an alternative elective subject, arranged to be taught after students complete basic technical subjects in the regular College training program in Automobile Repair Technology at Thanh Phong Auto Technical Practice Training Center (in cooperation with Vietnam-USA College).

  • Course code: ATE.6.20.00.
  • Duration: 1 credit (45 practice hours).

Position of the subject in the training program: This subject is built on the foundation of knowledge from basic engineering subjects, creating conditions for students to apply the knowledge they have learned to carry out in-depth projects on internal combustion engines.

Course objectives

After completing the Internal Combustion Engine Project course, students will be able to:

Knowledge: Have knowledge of internal combustion engine project implementation process.

Skills: Students can choose one of the following research directions and carry out projects:

  • Understand the structure and working principle of internal combustion engines.
  • Understand the structure and working principles of electrical systems on cars related to the engine.
  • Manufacturing of car engine model products.

Autonomy and responsibility:

  • Be aware of practicing independent and teamwork skills.
  • Highly responsible for assigned work during project implementation.

Main content of the curriculum

After completing the course, students will be able to identify basic details on gasoline engines and use tools and equipment to repair gasoline engines. At the same time, students will be able to perform general inspection and repair basic systems on gasoline engines through the following chapters:

  1. Chapter 1: Check and repair engine parts (15 hours): Learn the procedure for checking engine compression pressure, air distribution system, cooling system and lubrication system.
  2. Chapter 2: Implementing fuel injection control circuit (5 hours): Studying the structure, classification, operating principles and implementing electronic fuel injection control circuit.
  3. Chapter 3:Implementation of ignition control circuit (5 hours): Study the structure, classification, operating principle and implementation of ignition control circuit.
  4. Chapter 4: Practice connecting the sensor signal circuit (5 hours): Practice connecting the circuit for the intake air pressure sensor, engine speed sensor and water temperature sensor.
  5. Chapter 5: Testing and completing the model (15 hours): Conduct a general check and check the operation of the systems on the engine to complete the project model.

Implementation conditions

To ensure effective project implementation, Thanh Phong Auto Technical Practical Training Center is equipped with:

Specialized classrooms/workshops: Well-ventilated classrooms with air compressors and necessary equipment.

Equipment and machinery:

  • Model of sectioning, model of disassembly and assembly of systems in car engine.
  • Standard auto repair tool kit.
  • Specialized testing and diagnostic equipment for engines.
  • Projectors and computers support the research and presentation process.

Learning materials, tools, raw materials:

  • Lubricants, lubricants and cleaning solutions for parts.
  • Clean rags, chalk and other consumables.
  • Gaskets and gaskets are provided for assembly.
  • Defective parts need to be replaced (if any within the scope of the project).
  • Detailed project implementation instructions.

Student project results will be evaluated based on the following criteria:

Process assessment (40%):

  • Diligence and attitude: Evaluate diligence, proactive spirit and serious working attitude throughout the project implementation process under the guidance of the lecturer.
  • Project implementation process: Evaluate the progress of project stages, ability to collect information, analyze problems and resolve arising difficulties.

Final assessment (60%):

Project: Evaluation of the quality of the finished product (model or research report), the ability to present and defend the project before the council.

Evaluation criteria include:

  • Understanding the structure and working principles of systems in automobile engines (for research direction).
  • Ability to apply Labview and Matlab software in reading sensor signals and controlling cars (for software application direction).
  • Quality of construction of automobile engine model products (for model construction direction).
  • Ability to prepare and maintain a clean, safe and orderly work environment.
  • Application of occupational safety and industrial hygiene measures.

Assessment of autonomy and responsibility: Assessment through comments from lecturers, self-assessment of students and lecturers on compliance with regulations, sense of responsibility, initiative and ability to complete work on time and ensure quality.
